Welcome to the Seminary to Early Ministry (SEM) Study!

How will divinity school impact students? We know surprisingly little about this topic, and so the SEM Study – the first ever long-term study of divinity school students – was born.

This landmark study will track Duke Divinity School students from matriculation through their early years into their careers. By gaining a better understanding of how divinity school prepares students for ministry, the SEM Study aims to identify promising, data-informed policies that promote clergy well-being and spark informed conversations about how Christian ministry is changing.

All M.Div., M.T.S., and M.A.C.P. students entering in 2020 are encouraged to share their experiences and enroll in this study. Those who join will comprise a historic group of students who will shape our understanding of divinity school education and ministry for years to come.
